Jardim de Bonsai
Welcome to the slow world of Bonsai where trees dictate your rhythm!
The studio and nursery of the Jardim de Bonsai present a permanent exposition of high quality bonsai, many of native species, formed and worked on for many years.
The studio of the Jardim de Bonsai is dedicated to the teaching of the art of bonsai. To this end the studio is open for information, courses and workshops under the guidance of a qualified technician on the subject of cultivation, training and maintenance of bonsai.
Through the years it’s owner Rui Ferreira has been working on the trees which form the collection of the Jardim de Bonsai, teaching all the techniques necessary to the success of this form of living art.
The collection serves as an exposition/museum for the hotel guests to visit as well as an inspiration to the students who come to learn the art.
After studying with Master Hotsumi Terakawa from Japan, Rui Ferreira continued his studies with Master Salvatore Liporace from Italy, who is a pupil of the revered Master Masahiko Kimura from Japan.
Rui Ferreira is an instructor of the European Bonsai School.
His work is characterized by his eclectic choices as he is used to work on Japanese species, species from Northern and Southern Europe, as well as tropical species.
Although deciduous trees and perennials are his passion, he also works all kinds of conifers.
The trees worked on vary from ‘yamadori’ (collected in nature) to nursery material.
